The National Qualification in International Freight Forwarding Apprenticeship
The National Qualification in International Freight Forwarding apprenticeship is the only course leading to the national qualification that is run in conjunction with working.
Launched in 2009, the initiative sprang from a series of sessions organised by CBAFF with the aim of lifting the profile of the international freight forwarding industry as a career choice for young people.
The programme is run through weekly night classes spread over 27 months and students have homework and assignments to complete between lessons.
Subjects covered include health and safety, outstanding customer services, core business skills, effective business communication and industry awareness of key sector groups such as MAFF, Customs, CBAFF and IATA.
They also study building FAK containers, all import and export documentation, demurrage and detention, EDI and how systems operate, trans-shipments, insurance claims, warehousing and logistics, packing and storage and customs clearance.
Courses are run in Auckland, Christchurch, Tauranga, and Wellington by Agoge Training, a TranzQual approved private training establishment.
"The apprenticeship has gone really well. The way it ties in with the work we do is excellent and the practical side is really good, it gives us the opportunity to put what we are learning into practice."
