Announcements
Strike Action Highly Irresponsible
The latest strike notice by the Maritime Union of New Zealand – Local 13 is "highly irresponsible," says Ports of Auckland CEO Tony Gibson.
The port company confirmed that it had received a sixth strike notice from the union, for a 24 hour strike starting 7 am Tuesday 31 January to 7am Wednesday 1 February.
"This sixth strike will do nothing to end the dispute other than to strengthen our resolve to sort this out once and for all," Mr Gibson said.
Media unsatisfactory; strikes to proceed
Today's mediation between Ports of Auckland and the Maritime Union of New Zealand – Local 13 (MUNZ) made little progress with the two parties still far apart, Ports of Auckland Chief Executive Tony Gibson said this afternoon.
"We now anticipate that MUNZ will continue with the 96 hours of strikes they have threatened between now and 1 January."
Mr Gibson said the port would work closely with its customers to mitigate the impact of the strikes as best it could.
Maersk Line and MISC Consolidate on Port of Tauranga
Maersk Line, the world's largest container shipping line, operating in conjunction with Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Berhad (MISC), have today announced plans to relocate their Southern Star service to Port of Tauranga (with the new port rotation: Tanjung Pelapas (Malaysia), Singapore, Tauranga, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, Tanjung Pelapas).
Ports of Auckland Strike(s) - Container Detention
We are appreciative of the issues importers and exporters face over this time.
Detention is the charge that shipping lines apply for holding on to their container beyond an agreed time – these times vary from shipping line to shipping line and for imports, exports reefers et. We can only refer exporters and importers to the relevant shipping companies.
CMA CGM and ANL - Container Detention
CMA CGM and ANL will continue to offer their generous 10 day free use period to all importers with time starting from the date the containers are available to be uplifted from the port or Metroport (the latter being for cargoes t/s over Tauranga as a result of vessels being diverted).
