Customer Advisory
Maritime Union of New Zealand – Local 13 (MUNZ) has announced a 9th strike from 07:00 24th February 2012 to 07:00 2nd March 2012.
Ports of Auckland has announced that the container terminals will remain open during the union's 9th strike, with the operations being handled by non-union staff.
Staff on individual employment agreements will run shifts throughout the strike as we have during recent stoppages.
"We're going the extra mile to keep the port running," said Ports of Auckland Chief Executive Tony Gibson.
"We are determined to do everything we can to minimise the impact of the union's strike action on consumers, the business community and our Shipping Line customers," Mr Gibson said.
"We understand the urgency to find a long-term sustainable solution to ensure the service that our customers expect and are working to achieve this."
There are 12 vessels programmed through the Port over this period and we are engaging with Lines in the coming days to identify how we can cater for as many of these as possible by operating at a much lower capacity than normal with the use of non-union labour. As a consequence some vessels will have to operate with minimum exchanges, consider diversion and regrettably delays to schedules.
A summary of the effected vessels are listed below. These will be updated on our website with specific details as to how and where they will operate during the strike period. It will take a few days to finalise a plan as we work with different stakeholders.
