Remembering Conference 2026

30th Annual CBAFF Conference

And what a conference it was!!

Our 30th Anniversary Conference in Christchurch, was the biggest conference CBAFF has delivered to date. Bringing together members, sponsors, regulators, industry leaders, and the wider supply chain for three days of discussion, learning and connection was a fitting way to celebrate 30 years of CBAFF.

The theme - 30 Years Strong. Future Ready, reflected both the contribution of those who have shaped our Federation and our focus on preparing the industry for what comes next. Looking around the room during the conference, it was a powerful reminder that CBAFF is not simply an organisation, it is our industry and our people. It is the members who work in it, the businesses that support it, the regulators, and agencies we work alongside, and the people who continue to shape what comes next.

While we were celebrating 30 years of CBAFF, we were also reminded that our industry story is much older. Our foundations go back 105 years, to the establishment of the New Zealand Society of Customs Brokers in 1921, before its amalgamation with the New Zealand Institute of International Freight Forwarders Associations in 1996 to form CBAFF. Having inaugural President Trevor Gilbert with us to celebrate this milestone was particularly special and provided an important connection between where we have come from and where we are going.

That history gives us a strong foundation, but it is not where our story ends. Legacy is not simply about looking backwards; it is about deciding what we do with what has been built. The conference reinforced that the next 30 years will be shaped collectively, by sharing knowledge, challenging established thinking, embracing innovation, and asking what is right for our industry.

The conference programme reflected that forward focus, with practical and topical discussions around freight strategy, technology and AI, diversity, sustainability and governance, and the future of our industry. The site tours also provided delegates with an opportunity to see different parts of the supply chain in action, including Christchurch International Airport, Emirates, CHC Engine Centre (Pratt & Whitney), Port of Lyttelton, and New Zealand Customs. The level of participation and engagement throughout the conference was a strong reflection of the value our members place on coming together as an industry. The feedback received so far has also been valuable and will help inform our planning for future conferences, events, and member engagement.
